Calaruega Church is also known as the Transfiguration Chapel located at Batulao, Nasugbu, Batangas. This rustic church is standing perfectly in the midst of luscious greenery and colorful flowers abounding the place. Located at the highest point of Caleruega, the view and landscape of the church is the most photographed. Couples and ordinary sightseers alike will enjoy the beauty of the church.

This is why hubbee and I decided to check out this place and find out why a lot of marrying couples chooses this place either as the venue of their wedding or only for pre-nup pictorial. And surprisingly, when we got there, the place just validated it in an instant. It’s breath-taking. The place is serene with trees and flowers surrounding every area and it’s just a complete quietness. And the view of the mountains is just spectacular. It’s really a perfect place for romantic wedding.

How to go there? From Manila, take South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and take the Sta. Rosa exit. Turn right from the toll gate and just follow the main road. Proceed towards Tagaytay market and turn right to reach Tagaytay rotonda. Upon reaching the rotonda, go straight until you reach the boundary of Tagaytay and Batangas. Keep going. Then until you reach the entry point of Lemery and Nasugbu towns.

Take the Nasugbu path. Just a few minutes from entering Nasugbu, you’ll see a right turn with signs and buildings going to Evercrest, turn right. Then follow the road and you’ll see a sign of Calaruega, take that. It’s a rough road by the way. Once you reach the church, proceed to the gate and there’s an entrance fee of P30.00/person that you will need to pay which will include your parking fee already.

It’s a big retreat, seminar, honeymoon, wedding place. A very relaxing place good also if you just want to escape from your life in the city and be alone and get back to your senses. They have rooms for overnight stay and prices ranges from P900.00 to P1,600.00 per person. And that includes 3 meals and 2 snacks already. Our agenda was mainly to check out the place and take great pictures. The place is really a good background for pictorials.

So if you’re in Tagaytay, and tired of going to the same usual places like Sonya’s Garden and Picnic Grove, take a road trip to Nasugbu and bring your family/friends or even your partner and enjoy the wonderful place of Calaruega Church. It’s worth the visit!

“When we get out of the glass bottle of our ego and when we escape like the squirrels in the cage of our personality and get into the forest again, we shall shiver with cold and fright. But things will happen to us so that we don’t know ourselves. Cool, unlying life will rush in.”
