Seattle is the most commonly known and the most popular city in Washington. So when I found out that I will be visiting Washington, I honestly wished that it would be Seattle. But when I found out that the office of the company I used to work with is located in Tacoma, it saddened me. Haha! But of course, I don’t want to complain. But God is just so good He made way for me to see Seattle.

So with the kindness of the heart of our hosts in Tacoma, they brought us to Seattle for us to see the Emerald City. And not only once I’ve visited the city but thrice. And I just loved Seattle in an instant. Although there’s just too much cars in Seattle, something that I noticed because there are so many buildings in the city used just for parking. That’s why Seattle is one of the most car-congested cities in the United States.

But anyways, so the first time we were there, our hosts Dave and Derya brought us first to Pike Place Market, the very famous market in the world known for the fish throwing stunts of the fish vendors. Whether you’re shopping for farm fresh produce, unique foods from around the world, or handmade arts and crafts, you’ll find it at Pike Place Market. The Market is over 100 years old already, originating back in 1907 with a gathering of 8 farmers. That’s how it started.

On the same place you’ll find the Athenian Inn. This is where some scenes from the movie Sleepless in Seattle were filmed. It’s just a few steps away from the fish throwing vendors. We did not miss to take a picture as a remembrance. At the same time, on the same place also you’ll find the first Starbucks store. Starbucks opened its first store in 1971 in the Pike Place Market. Because the Market is a historic district with design guidelines, the store retained its original look. Too bad, I lost my picture taken with the store as the background. But I was able to get inside, lucky me!

So after seeing the famous market, we then went to Seattle Aquarium, known to be the 7th largest aquarium in the U.S.. The attraction is open daily, from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. Entrance fee for adults (ages 13 and above) costs $19.00/each, while for youth with ages 4-12 years old would need to pay $12.00 only. And for kids 3 years old and below, entrance is free. It’s a very nice attraction most especially for kids and young at heart.

After the visit in the aquarium, we continue our stroll and checked out the wharf area of Seattle, the Elliott Bay. In this area I was able to see Edgewater Hotel also. It seemed to be like most of the other high class hotel suites that was built in 1964 until August 21 came when the famous Beatles checked in to this hotel which helped marked its place in the history. Just like what our hosts said, when they showed us the hotel, the next statement they had was, “that’s where Beatles stayed”.

So we continued our stroll and saw more sights and scenes in the Emerald City. More walk, more sights. Haha! I really enjoyed the cold weather and the energy in the city.

Second time I went to Seattle, it was our friends Matt and Lindsay who brought us there for dinner and for another stroll. Tacoma is just 30-35 minutes away from Seattle that’s why it was so easy for us to be brought there.

Then the last visit to Seattle, we went there to watch a NBA game in Key Arena, home of the Seattle Supersonics. My first and unforgettable live basketball game. It was a very exciting experience and the tremendous energy inside the arena was just so awesome. I’m not a basketball fan but this experience changed my perception about basketball. After the game, we checked out another famous landmark in Seattle, the Space Needle.

My visit to Seattle was very memorable. And I will never forget that experience. If only I can return, I would love to even if it’s so freezing cold at night, I would still love to be there. Thanks to our great hosts for bringing us there. I’m just so lucky to see Seattle and saw the famous landmarks that I have only seen in movies before. Awesome!

“The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.”

I remember, it was October 26, 2009 when hubbee and I celebrated our first monthsary in Cebu. It was in Cebu also where we watched our first movie together. Wanna know what movie we watched? And how romantic it was? It’s actually this movie…

What a romantic first movie together!!! Haha.

Anyways, it was my first time in Cebu at that time. As mentioned in my previous entries, Hubbee was born in Cebu so he knows the place. And his family used to live there. But he actually grew up in Cagayan De Oro. And yes, he’s a pure cebuano.

Cebu is like Metro Manila in some ways. They have worse traffic at times too. Haha.

When I arrived in Cebu together with my friends who joined us in our Bohol tour, hubbee picked us up at the airport and parted our ways from there. My friends went straight to their pier for the ferry ride to Bohol while hubbee and I went straight to SM Cebu to grab some lunch. I was already hungry at that time.

It was an “enjoying” moment already for me while inside the taxi and on our way to SM until something great welcomed me on that mall….

Power was out when we entered the mall. Great!!!

But it did not stop our hungry stomach. We went to Pizza Hut for our lunch and enjoyed my very delicious Lasagna. Then after lunch, we went straight to the pier for our ferry ride to Bohol.

So that’s the story of our Cebu adventure…

Haha. Just kidding.

After a few days in Bohol, we went back to Cebu but went straight to Bantayan Island and stayed overnight there. On the day of our Chapter I, we were back in the city. And since it’s our celebration, we decided to dress up and go to Ayala Mall. Haha. Just to get a little feel of celebration. Ayala Mall in Cebu was a surprise. It was very nice. I think it is better than Glorietta here in Makati. Just my opinion.

Then we just strolled around and met our good friend Monica. It was her birthday also that’s why it was a double celebration for the three of us. And what a good way to celebrate our monthsary and her birthday was to eat. And not just eat, but a feast!!!

We went to The Port in Waterfront Hotel, which I highly recommend to those who will visit cebu, because they have a cheap buffet. And their buffet, oh boy, it’s amazing. They offer a huge variety of delicious food, cool beer, good service and the buffet is worth the price (P 199 lunch buffet / P 299 dinner buffet). It is really nice to go there. Oh yeah, heaven!!! And they have this no left-over policy.

Since it was a celebration, and there was a band (Acushla Band) playing at that time, hubbee and Monica had some beers and I, putting up my thick face, joined the band and rendered two songs, dedicated to hubbee and to Monica. Hubbee, whom at that time, didn’t know that I can sing. I was not caring at all on what people might say on my voice. No one knows who I am so the hell I care. I just sang the song and enjoyed the moment. See some videos that hubbee took. I bet he enjoyed it, and admitted that he liked it. Haha!

I have to admit, I got nervous in the beginning. Haha. So please, don’t criticize too much =)

We planned to do the Sky Adventure at The Regency Hotel, and experience the Edge Coaster and Sky Walk but due to lack of time, we were unable to do it. What we just did after eating was walked around the city. We went inside the nice Waterfront Hotel and did what we do best, picture-taking!!! Haha. We also went to the IT Park where most of the call centers are located, and nice bars and restaurants.

And we called it a night after. We stayed by the way at Gran Tierra Suites, which is a super chic hotel with a super cheap price for their rooms. We got a Double Room which costs P989.00 only for a night. Highly recommended.

The next day, we woke up early so he can still bring me to the famous Magellan Cross and Basilica de Sto. Nino Church. Of course, I wouldn’t want to miss that. It completed my Cebu trip. We also did a significant act by burning 5 candles each for 5 wishes in our lives at the church. It was romantic. It was sacramental. It was symbolical.

All in all, I enjoyed my trip in the Queen City of the South, and felt it was “bitin” and had reasons to come back. Which is why this year, we have allotted 6 days for our Cebu adventure. And I don’t mind going back again because there are more things to discover and places to go in Cebu. This place will remain special to me and hubbee.

“Travel is glamorous only in retrospect.”

We brought our mom to Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna to celebrate this year’s Mother’s Day. I really make sure that this special day for moms is celebrated to honor the great things that my mom has done for me, for my sister and for our family. And normally, we go out to celebrate it, either do a road trip or just dine out. This time, we decided to celebrate it in Nuvali together with my cousin Julius and our house help Sandra.

Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna is less than an hour south of Makati. Just drive from Makati thru Sta. Rosa Exit of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), or thru Mamplasan Exit. But I usually take the Malitlit Exit (Greenfield City/ETON City/Asia Brewery Inc. Exit), the next exit after Sta. Rosa exit. It’s the farthest exit among all the three but its the easiest and most convenient because of less cars and less traffic.

Nuvali is a new metropolis evolving covering a total land area of 1,600 hectares which will be developed by Ayala Land at unprecedented scale and speed. And this place is very promising as it offers a different approach and will be built in principles of sustainable design: Environmental, Economic and Social sustainability. It’s a different feel when you’re in Nuvali. You feel more “green” when you get there. They have food establishments and call centers are starting to bloom in this area.

When we arrived, we checked out first the bazaar (tiangge) that usually available in Nuvali. You can usually find good stuff for a cheaper price in different stalls lined up there. Some clothes there are branded actually and this bazaar is usually visited by people during weekends. You can find filipino food (snacks), toys, shoes, shirts and other different stuff that you can buy. Hubbee and I purchased a cute bracelet for us. Then, it was time for us to feed our hungry stomach.

We went to Pig Out to have our lunch. It’s a nice place that is somewhat odd were the waitresses and waiters dressed in costumes. For real!!! We were greeted by Pocahontas who also took and served our food. Spider Man and Wonder Woman were around the area too. And what makes them unique from other restaurants in the area? They do dance number to entertain more of their customers. Cool!

We were hungry at that time that we ordered as soon as we settled in. Pocahontas recommended Crispy Pata, one of their best sellers and so we did. And when all of our order was placed on our table, celebration of motherhood and great food started. Haha. Although they are bit pricey, but the quality and the taste of food was not sacrificed. We enjoyed their sumptuous food. And since it’s Mother’s Day celebration, they gave us a complementary Fried Banana Spring Rolls. Nice!

After our lunch, we had our little stroll in the area. There’s nothing much to do in Nuvali but to dine in on a number of restaurants available in the place. For kids, they can enjoy the fish (koi) feeding which is a great entertainment as you’ll enjoy a lot of fish fighting for their lives to get pieces of fish pellets. You can buy fish food for P30.00. Or, if you want to have a quick boat tour, it’s also available in Nuvali.

Then my mom decided to have some dessert at Conti’s restaurant where you can have their very delicious cakes. Since they no longer have an available Mango Bravo at that time, we just had their Viennese Mocha Torte. One small cake divided in to 6. Perfect! And I think this was the best part of the celebration. Haha! I just love all the cakes in Conti’s Restaurant!!!

Over-all, we were able to celebrate Mother’s Day and my mom, who was the star of that day enjoyed the time spent with us. And for me, it was a success. Thanks to Nuvali who became our favorite hang out place because of its close proximity and very relaxing environment. I just love this place…

“The first condition of understanding a foreign country is to smell it.

So after coming from our visit to Panglao Island in Bohol (see this entry), we left the group and went straight to our next itinerary, and that is to go to Bantayan Island, in the northern part of Cebu. This entry will show the snapshots of our travel going to the island, seeing the beautiful country side of Cebu, and of course, will give tips on how you can go to Bantayan Island coming from the city.

So from the city, take a taxi going to North Bus Terminal. Taxis are everywhere in the city so you won’t have a hard time finding one. However, make sure it’s a metered taxi to avoid a price gouge, and insist the driver if he is refusing. If not, just get another taxi; there’s plenty to choose from without a long wait time. North Bus Terminal is near SM Cebu. Then, once you get to the terminal, look for Ceres Coach Bus Liner that goes to Hagnaya. Look for the yellow & white Ceres bus, marked Hagnaya in the windshield – step in and ask the driver to confirm Hagnaya/Bantayan Island.

There are other bus liners that offers trip to Hagnaya but I highly recommend Ceres Coach Bus. Ticket will cost you P80.00 per person for a non-aircon bus, which what he had. However, they do have an air-con bus when available, sometimes only 3 per day, that costs P125.00 pr person. Prices and schedules do change from time to time during the year according to them.

Most travelers heading to Bantayan Island simply get to the North Bus Terminal early in the morning, have a quick breakfast or snack as they wait for the next bus to leave for Hagnaya; most times twice per hour. Travel time is generally 3 hours (on rare occasions 2:45min) including the 10 minute stop in Carmen, Cebu for a restroom break, food and refreshments.

If you want to avoid the hassle of bus commute, the stop over and wants to get to Hagnaya on a very comfortable travel, all taxi drivers in the city are familiar with Hagnaya and can drive you all the way there. Just expect to pay at least P2,000 for this special trip, and if you’re a group of 2 or 3 you can split the fare. Once in Hagnaya, hop in to Super Shuttle Ferry. It’s a few minute walk from the bus stop going to the port.

In Hagnaya port, ferry boats run all day to Santa Fe, Bantayan Island starting at 5:30 am. And please remember that the last ferry of the day leaves Hagnaya at 5:30 pm. Travel time from Super Shuttle Ferries is approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Ticket per person costs P150.00 for a regular fare while P170.00 per person for an air-con cabin. We took the regular fare to enjoy the sea breeze. Please note also of the P10.00 terminal fee per person you need to pay at the port.

Movies are shown on most Ferries except the FastCraft, and drinks/snacks are available, as well as cold San Miguel beer. Porters/Baggage handlers are available to carry your luggage on/off the boats here as well. However, they can be very aggressive when coming aboard (sort of looks like a SWAT Raid by guys wearing green-blue ‘Porter’ t-shirts), so just smile & shake your head ‘no thanks’ if you’re not going to be using them – if they become annoying or persistant, tell them ‘NO’ very firmly.

Also, don’t be near the front of the line waiting to get off a fully loaded boat when it docks – the SWAT baggage handlers storm the plank and are climbing/tripping over people & baggage at this point, turning it into quite the little chaotic scene, so just stay clear. There are also plenty of vendor stalls at Hagnaya Pier, where you can get BBQ, coffee, soft drinks, snacks, phone loads, before you board the boat.

Once you get to Santa Fe Port, I highly recommend that you make advance arrangement with your resort/hotel for a pick up. Most of the resorts and hotels do offer that. It will just be a long walk from the dock to the exit of the port, so if you’re carrying a heavy luggage, you will need some help from the locals who are waiting outside the ferry for a minimum tip. Good thing we arranged our pick up and the owner himself was the one who welcomed us and brought us to his resort. Nice!

As they say, it’s not only the destination that you enjoy when traveling, it’s also the journey going to the destination. And I have enjoyed seeing the sights and scenery of the northern part of Cebu. And most especially arriving to the beautiful island of Bantayan. Will make a separate entry for our stay in the island.

Travel does what good novelists also do to the life of everyday, placing it like a picture in a frame or a gem in its setting, so that the intrinsic qualities are made more clear. Travel does this with the very stuff that everyday life is made of, giving to it the sharp contour and meaning of art.”

After checking in at our hotel in Alexandria, Virginia (see this entry), we went to Washington D.C. to visit the capital of the United States. We went there as a group. But when we got there, we had our own agenda. Our hosts allowed us to have our own itinerary, depending on what you want to see in the district. For my group, our priority was to visit and see the White House, the house of the President of the powerful and influential country in the world, the United States.

Washington D.C., formally known as the District of Columbia, and commonly referred to as Washington, the “District”, or simply “D.C.”, is the capital of the United States. It was on July 16, 1790 when the United States Congress approved the creation of a permanent national capital of U.S.A. as permitted by the U.S. Constitution. The city is surrounded by the states of Maryland to the southeast, northeast, and northwest and Virginia to the southwest.

We went to the National Mall, a large, open park area in the center of the city. Given its prominence, they say that this area is often the location of large-scale political protests and demonstrations which we saw a few when we were there. The Washington Monument is located near the center of the mall, south of the White House. Also located on the mall are the Lincoln Memorial, the National World War II Memorialat the east end of the Reflecting Pool which is interesting because they have one for Philippines, the Korean War Veterans Memorial, and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

The famous Smithsonian Institution houses and maintains most of the nation’s official museums and galleries in Washington, D.C.. The U.S. government partially funds the Smithsonian, thus making its collections open to the public free of charge. We had a short visit to the National Air and Space Museum located on the National Mall. And this place was really huge!

Other Smithsonian Institution museums and galleries located on the mall are: the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of African Art, the National Museum of American History, the National Museum Museum of the American Indian, the Sackler and Freer galleries, which both focus on Asian Art and Culture, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Arts and Industries Building, the S. Dillon Ripley Center, and the Smithsonian Institution Building (also known as “The Castle”), which serves as the Institution’s headquarters.

The next day, since we still have a lot of time before our return flight to Manila, a few of us went back to Washington D.C. to visit more places. It’s not hard to commute going there. Although we had one miss when we were returning to Alexandria because we ended at Pentagon instead. But no regret, at least we get to see up close the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense located in Arlington, Virginia.

It was memorable because I finally saw significant landmarks in the states which are also known in the world. I was happy to see the White House, Smithsonian Institution, Memorial Statue, the U.S. Congress, Lincoln Memorial, U.S. Capitol and a lot of things. And the cute squirrels that are just roaming and playing around at the park. You’d see a lot of tourists and visitors around that’s why it’s so comfortable to tour around even if you’re not familiar with the place and streets. Awesome experience!

“To travel is to discover that everyone is wrong about other countries.”

Today, September 26, 2011, we celebrate our 2 years of our relationship. Today is a happy day for me. It’s a day of reminiscing good memories we had as a couple. I celebrate this day because this is my longest relationship. Finally, someone in this world was brave enough to fight for this love. And I am grateful for him, for coming in to my life. And today, I’d like to go back and reminisce all of our adventures which helped strengthen our relationship for the last two years.

Badian, Cebu. This is where we witnessed the beautiful Kawasan Falls (see this entry) and enjoyed the wonderful trek to the falls. And most especially the waterfall massage. Hubbee is a good swimmer so he enjoyed jumping and diving to the cold water. We were accompanied by our good friend Wee Dimalanta on this trip. This was also memorable for hubbee because he was struggling with his tooth ache, which brought us to the Town Health center to have his tooth extracted for P100.00. Haha!

Baguio, Benguet. This is where we celebrated our 1st year anniversary (see this entry). This is where we bought our anniversary ring. It was hubbee’s first time in Baguio too that’s why it’s another unforgettable adventure for him. With no itinerary, we just spent our vacation there by non stop walking and strolling and seeing the tourists spots. But the most relaxing part of that journey was the Coffee Time at Starbucks Camp John Hay, and the scary search of our way out from the camp during the night. It was memorable!!!

Bantayan Island, Cebu. Our memorable commute and journey to the northern part of Cebu. I think we took all types of transportation. We took a taxi, bus, ferry, multi cab and motorcycle to get there. That was an adventure! But the beach in Bantayan Island was just spectacular. And the privacy and intimacy of the island was really captivating. The owner of the resort helped us to experience the beauty of this island, and the restaurant staff who enjoyed my voice when I tried singing on their videoke machine. Haha!

Bolinao, Pangasinan. One of the best road trips we had last year. We were joined by our friends Chi Santos and Joy Tingson on this adventure in the province of Pangasinan. What’s memorable on this journey? It was the search for food while we were on the road as we were really hungry already and we can’t find a food to feed our hungry stomach (see this entry). That was classic. And of course, the wonderful Puerto Del Sol Resort and the White Beach of Bolinao. What’s memorable for hubbee too was the Mall Tour that Chi did for him on our way home. Haha!

Boracay, Aklan. We’ve been to this island twice already. The first trip was with our good friends Hazel Pobrero, Drey Lallo and Aldrin Isidro. It was a blast. We did so many activities and maximized the days we were there. The second trip was with my sister (see this entry), and where I celebrated my 30th birthday (see this entry). Friends flew in (Laarni Zamora, Ella Salvador and Al) to have a quick vacation and celebrate my birthday with me as well. We had a blast at Epic bar that night of celebration, and a sumptuous seafood meal at dampa.

Cagayan De Oro, Misamis Oriental. This is where hubbee grew up. Though born in Cebu, this became his second home where he spent most of his life. When I finally went to Cagayan De Oro, our relationship became official. But it did not even become our first agenda. We immediately started our adventure the day I arrived (see this entry). We only became official on my second night in Cagayan De Oro. And this was happening while the thunder storm Ondoy was hitting Manila big time! The only good thing that the storm brought was our relationship was born.

Carmen, Bohol. This is where we visited the famous Chocolate Hills and the big phyton. This is where we discovered the fake chocolate hills background used for photo effects that has deceived me for years. Haha! But seriously, the view of the hills are just beautiful. Very unique. Only found in the Philippines. This tour was joined by our girl friends Michelle Paras, Monica Guce, Grace Consolacion, Bianca Barreto and Sara. It was hubbee’s first time to meet them and he enjoyed their company.

Cebu City, Cebu. We’ve been to Cebu City twice as well. On our first trip, we just checked out Ayala Mall, church visit at Basilica de Sto. Nino, and had buffet dinner at The Port in Waterfront Hotel since we don’t have much time. But on our second trip, we did the Sky Experience Adventure, visited the Taoist Temple, The Capitol and The Strip. Hubbee was more of looking forward to experience the Edge Coaster and finally, he has experienced it (see this entry). And of course, it won’t be complete without a buffet again at The Port.

Coron, Busuanga. Our Palawan adventure together with Drey Lallo and her son Asejia Lallo. This was dubbed as our “welcome summer” get away. And we were just in awe when we experienced the beautiful wonders of Coron. The highlight was our trip to Kayangan Lake. It’s just a beautiful lake and dubbed as the cleanest lake in the Philippines. I enjoyed swimming there as it was really clear and clean. Hubbee and I really want to go back again in Coron sometime next year if time permits.

Dahilayan, Bukidnon. This was the official first adventure of macbee (see this entry). Hubbee brought me to this beautiful adventure park in Bukidnon and forced me to try out the zipline. I swear, it almost killed me but the experience was worth it. It was a pure fear factor for me, while he was enjoying all these thrills. But this became a test of a good future for us as we really enjoyed doing stuff like taking pictures and doing adventure rides. I fell in love with him at this point because I know it’s a good sign for a good start for us.

Intramuros, Manila. This is where we had our first couple shirt. And I think it was the first and the last. Haha. This was our first activity on the first day of the year 2010. Hubbee and I met our friends (Jze Guion, Francis Chua, Monica Guce, Michelle Paras, and Grace Consolacion). We had a photo walk and a food trip in Binondo, Manila. I think we have explored well the streets of Intramuros with tons of pictures as our proof. Haha! But the best part of me and hubbee, the delicious chinese delicacy we had for snack.

Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Highlight of this trip was our empanada food trip in Laoag and our movie watching of My Amnesia Girl in Robinsons Mall. Since we had a late flight, we only stayed in Laoag for one night. Then returned to do quick trip to several landmarks and museum. And since we still have a lot of time to kill before our return flight, we decided to watch a movie. And of course, eat to hubbee’s all time favorite fast food restaurant, KFC! We also liked our visit to the museum as it showed the rich culture of the Ilocos Region.

Lemery, Batangas. It was another unplanned road trip we’ve decided to do one saturday and we we’re accompanied by our good friends Hazel Pobrero and Aldrin Isidro, together with their son Uno. It’s not the beach that made this trip unforgettable. It was when Khenzo, my car, stopped in the middle of the road due to over heating. My first over heat experience and had no idea what to do. Haha! Good thing we stopped in front of a local store. It was unforgettable for me, who’s not well-trained with cars and what it can happen some times.

Loboc, Bohol. Aside from the nice experience in Carmen, Bohol, Loboc also gave us wonderful experience by having a close encounter with hubbee’s family members, the tarsiers. Haha! Just kidding. The cute little animals are just charming to watch, so small you can’t resist their cuteness. The Loboc Church was also nice, most especially inside as they have preserved the old beauty of the church. And of course, the highlight, the Loboc River Cruise. Good lunch buffet and good Loboc Kids Choir serenading the tourists.

Los Banos, Laguna. It was my team’s teambuilding held in Splash Mountain in Los Banos, Laguna. It’s a big group so it was a nice bonding time for my team but the additional points for me was, hubbee and my mom was there too. Also, one of my agents who’s from Los Banos (Yron Retuta) invited us to check out the Christmas decorations in U.P. Los Banos. So we went there and saw the giant christmas tree and the beautiful belen. Finally, hubbee saw the big and huge university in Laguna.

Mactan, Cebu. We really wanted to visit Mactan because we want to see the Lapu Lapu shrine. So when we had an opportunity, we booked a nice hotel (see this entry) and visited the famous landmark in Cebu, the shrine of Lapu Lapu. But the best part was the Be Resort. Such a beautiful boutique resort in Mactan where most of the luxurious resorts in Cebu are located. And special mention was our commute journey in finding this resort. But it was all worth of the adventure.

Moalboal, Cebu. It was time for us to check out the southern part of Cebu. On our last trip to Cebu this year, we visited Moalboal known for its diving spots. But our best spotted place was our resort, the Club Serena Resort. We enjoyed our accommodation, our food, and our total stay in that place (see this entry). We did not enjoy the beach that much but the time spent with hubbee in this place was of course the highlight of it. We always do things together and this is just one of the best times of our lives as a couple.

Nagcarlan, Laguna. This is another road trip adventure for macbee. But this time, it was my family who joined us together with a few relatives. In short, this was a family excursion. But it was our first time in Nagcarlan, Laguna, and going to Villa Martha was just another part of the adventure (see this entry). It was a series of discussion for me and hubbee on which resort we’ll go to since we checked out different resorts along the way but we ended at Villa Martha and it was all worth it.

Nasugbu, Batangas. We had several road trips together, usually when we don’t have anything planned for the weekend. And one time, we decided to check out this famous church in Nasugbu, Batangas. Calaruega Church just blew us away by its beauty and wonder (see this entry). That’s why on our second visit to Calaruega Church, we brought along my mom and my sister so they can experience the beauty that this place holds. And no wonder, the place did not fail us. I hope hubbee and I can just get married to this place. Just a wishful thinking. Haha!

Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. Our farthest northern adventure so far. We continuously seek best beaches in the Philippines and this was one of our agenda last year. And we were so happy to finally visit the famous Blue Lagoon and Saud Beach (see this entry) in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. But aside from the beaches, we also had a chance to visit the Patapat Viaduct and the Bangui Windmills. But the best part for us was the delicious food served in Kapuluan Vista Resort. Their Bagnet was just breath taking. Haha!

Panglao Island, Bohol. This island was not only known for the local filipinos but has been recognized by our tourists as one beautiful place. And when we finally had a chance to see its beauty, it was just simply amazing. We liked the beach, most especially during the morning when it was low tide. We had a great time there, took so many pictures and stayed at Lost Horizon Resort (see this entry). The resort is a perfect place for couples during the night as it serenades you with their fresh atmosphere with music background while having dinner.

Roxas Boulevard, Manila. Our first Valentine’s Day as a couple was spent at Manila Ocean Park (see this entry). Although it was not my first time there, I went back and brought hubbee to experience the giant aquarium housing aquatic life and mostly visited by kids and students from different schools. The best part of that trip was the fish spa where a lot of doctor fish cleaning all the dirt in your feet. It was very ticklish but once you get the hang of it, it will then become a relaxing experience.

San Pablo, Laguna. My aunt who took care of me when I was still a baby is from San Pablo, Laguna, and their house is just in front of Sampaloc Lake. That area is famous for the locals as they do their morning jogging there. So when we arrived, hubbee and I were so overwhelmed by many cute guys running around. Haha! Just kidding. That was not the highlight. So my cousins toured us around, we went to the park, had street food and took some pictures while killing time. We had this trip to San Pablo with my mom, sister and cousin.

Sta. Rosa, Laguna. Few places we’ve been to in Sta. Rosa, Laguna are Enchanted Kingdom, Paseo De Sta. Rosa and Nuvali. The visit to Enchanted Kingdom was with my friends and family. Hubbee’s first to the theme park. Visit to Paseo De Sta. Rosa and Nuvali are usually with family. Our favorite place is the koi area in Nuvali. We always buy food to feed the kois who are just so cute to watch while they fight for their lives in having pieces of fish food. Haha. Hubbee and I always enjoy going to this place.

Tagaytay, Cavite. Because of its close proximity, I can’t count how many times hubbee and I went to Tagaytay to either just hang out at Starbucks, dine in to many restaurants found there, or have picnik at Picnic Grove. Several friends have joined as well on our Tagaytay road trips and the place has always made it special for us. We never miss to stop by at the market to buy meat and fresh vegetables. But the most memorable amongst all our Tagaytay trips was when Khenzo stopped again, but this time, not because of over heating but due to clutch problem. Very memorable!

Tiaong, Quezon. We decided one weekend to visit another famous place found in the border of San Pablo, Laguna and Tiaong, Quezon. We checked out Villa Escudero and experienced the carabao ride going to the resort while being serenaded by their employees, the raft ride, the large collection of the Escuderos on their museum, the lunch at the falls while your feet is stepped on a running water, their sumptuous buffet lunch, and their cultural show during the afternoon.

Tunasan, Muntinlupa. Whenever we visit my mom in Laguna, SM Muntinlupa is our favorite hang out place because this is just close to our house. And a few monthary celebrations were held there, normally having dinner with my family. This is where we have our grocery sometimes, even our hair cut at Fix, or little shopping when there’s an extra money on our pocket. But the best monthsary celebration held there was on our Chapter IV. It was just a happy day for me and hubbee.

Vigan, Ilocos Sur. It was a quick day trip for me and hubbee to Ilocos Sur because we want to see the famous Calle Crisologo. That visit became more memorable when Dingdong Dantes entered the store where hubbee and I were in. It was a star struck moment for hubbee (as always). Haha. We also visited the Baluarte where we had close encounter with the animals of Governor Chavit Singson (see this entry). Our first time to see a camel as well. We also visited the Hidden Garden and where we had our first taste of bagnet. Yummy!

To summarize macbee’s travel adventures for 2 years, we rode in a plane 6 times together, saw 6 airports in the Philippines, visited 12 churches and 10 beaches, experienced 4 thrilling adventure rides, did snorkeling 2 times, and been to 28 towns, 14 provinces, and 8 regions. If only our Northern Adventure was not canceled, we have additional places to add on to our list. On this new year that we have, we are excited to experience more places. Different places we’ve never been to.

Current line up are Oriental Mindoro, Cagayan De Oro, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea. As they say, traveling is the best form to strengthen your relationship, to get away from the normal routine in your relationship, and get to know more of your partner. I am just blessed to have a partner who shares the same interest in traveling and photography.

On our 2nd year anniversary hubbee, I just want to let you know how much I love you and thank you for the great adventures we had and we will have soon. Thank you for being the best in all forms. For being the best travel buddy, my best friend on the road, my love of my life. I simply cannot ask for more. You are God’s gift to me. And I hope to share another wonderful year with you!

I love you so much hubbee and happy anniversary!!!

My Sister’s First Boracay Trip

Since I decided to celebrate my birthday this year in Boracay, I also brought my sister so she can join our one week vacation there. This marks her first solo adventure, first airport experience, and first flight travel alone. We had a different flight schedule, different airline and different airport. Since it was also a sudden decision to book a flight for her, we cannot find the same flight schedule. So she had to take it all by herself, in which she was okay to do it.

My parents were so worried. They have this tendency to still treat us like kids. Haha. But I can understand where they’re coming from. I had little hesitations too because the weather was not that normal, even our flight had several turbulences. But I know she’s more courageous than me and can overcome all these “first time” fears. Besides, she was traveling via Sea Air, it will just be a fast and easy flight for her, in which that was the case. She arrived in Boracay safe and sound. And it became a vacation blast for her.

Not only she experienced how Macbee spend vacation and how we travel, but she had one week in the famous island on her first time. I guess it gave her all the flavor of the island, having to experience the island tour, the partying at night, the good food in Boracay, the island people, and the beach. I was just happy to have her, and celebrate my birthday with her presence. I can easily tell that she really had fun. Right, sis?!

“I soon realized that no journey carries one far unless, as it extends into the world around us, it goes an equal distance into the world within.”

Here’s a funny story of me and my good friend Jze in Baguio.

August of 2008, I went to Baguio alone for two things. To have a quick vacation and to meet someone. Someone I have been talking to and exchanging texts for a long time. There was nothing romantic going on between the two of us. When he found out that I am going to Baguio, since he’s just from La Union, he decided to meet me there. Since I am just alone on my quick vacation, which I normally do before, I agreed for the meet up.

To cut the story short, the meet up did not go well. I did not like something which made me very uncomfortable and being alone in Baguio became uneasy for me. And so, that night, I called my two good friends. I asked them if they can go to Baguio and accompany me. Luckily, it was Jze who responded and immediately asked permission from his partner, took a cab, went to Victory Liner, took a bus and went to Baguio to save a friend. Haha!

That’s how to drag a very good friend. Haha.

So my August Baguio trip was accompanied by my little brother, my best friend Jze. He arrived late at night. Picked him up at the terminal and called it a night. Twas a long day for me and it was a surprising day for him. Haha. The next day, we went out to do the normal routine in Baguio, and that’s to visit the tourist spots, eat, walk, and just enjoy the cold weather of this city. We had lunch at Sizzling Plate Restaurant to start off our day.

After our lunch, we visited Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral first to offer some prayers. We took the long way, the 100 steps going up as our little sacrifice before reaching the church.

Then we went to the famous Burnham Park. We strolled around, had corn cob, taho and ice cream, took some pictures, and visited the Ice Skating rink, which is now a carnival area. See my first Baguio entry.

The next day, we went to SM Baguio and did the normal stuff when you’re at the mall. We had our lunch at Teriyaki Boy, our favorite restaurant because we both like boys. Haha. Just kidding.

Then, we went to Mines View Park, and again, to do the regular routine of a tourist in Baguio. Check out the view, check out the souvenir shops, and take some pictures.

Then, we went to Good Shepherd Convent to buy some Ube Jam, ate empanada, and again, took some pictures. There was nothing unique activity on our quick vacation. That was it. Haha.

It was just a time well spent with a good friend. We used to work in the same company and had time to bond, exchange life stories, but when we parted ways, we don’t see each other that regularly. But with that situation, it gave us time to bond and spend one quick vacation in Baguio. The bad situation that turned out to be a good time with a good friend. Now that he’s in Jeddah, I hope we can go back and have another vacation together. But this time, with our good partners. That’s a perfect idea!!!

“What you’ve done becomes the judge of what you’re going to do – especially in other people’s minds. When you’re traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don’t have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road.”

Early next day on our stay at Club Serena Resort in Moalboal, Cebu (see this entry), we left the resort going to Kawasan Falls for a quick trip to the famous waterfalls down south of Cebu. From the resort, it’s a 30 minute land travel going to Badian Town where the falls is located. Then, you’ll have to walk for another 30 minutes to get to the falls. Since we left around 6:00 am, and we haven’t gotten our breakfast, we stopped by at Julie’s Bakeshop to buy some bread to fill our hungry stomach.

Club Serena resort offers transportation and package for your visit to the falls. But we only availed of their transportation service (van) for P1,000.00 (back and forth) since we just plan to visit and experience the falls. They also have SUV for P1,5000.00 if you’re not comfortable with the van. They can also prepare lunch if you opt to stay there the whole day. Then, when we reached Matutinao, Badian, we started our relaxing trek to the falls.

The foot trail to the falls slopes gently upward for about one kilometer and is well shaded by overhanging trees. You’ll hear the roar of the falls increasing as you walk on. The Kawasan River itself is an attraction with its clear, green waters and wild growths along its banks. I have to admit, it’s not everyday you’ll have a beautiful view like this. You’ll have to cross 3 small bridges before reaching the falls. I suggest to try to stop at this moment and look upstream. Your camera can’t wait to take some shots of the background and give you a forever lasting picture of what paradise is. Trust me!

Kawasan has three waterfalls. The first one is the largest and is usually the most crowded. This is your first stop. You can bring your own food there. But If you want to just relax, you don’t have to since there’s a restaurant there where you can just buy. There’s even some rooms that you can rent if you want to stay overnight by the falls. There’s a P10.00/person entrance fee and Cottage and tables are also available for rent for P600.00/table. The driver from the resort can watch your stuff. Towels will be provided by Club Serena too, and bottled water.

You should and never miss to rent a bamboo raft to take you around the lake, or for a refreshing “waterfall massage” under the falling water. The raft ride is P200.00 plus tip to the guide. The water is freaking cold but it will just bite your skin in the beginning, and once you get to adapt to the temperature, you will start to enjoy the waterfall experience. And that waterfall massage, especially the last drop, it will make you scream like a little girl. Fantastic experience!

After experiencing the first falls, we checked out the second one. Since it is a hierarchy of waterfalls, of which the first is the biggest, however the scenery gets wilder and more impressive the further up you go. It’s another upward trek, 10-15 minutes away from the first falls. The place has stores too and tables for people who wants to have picnic, I guess if the first falls is already crowded.

The surroundings are just relaxing and peaceful at Kawasan Falls. No wonder this became a famous tourist destination, popular with locals as well as visitors. And we did not miss this chance to see and visit it on our recent Cebu trip. It’s a good place to enjoy with your friends or family, have a picnic to lush scenery, tropical forest, and have a cool swim. A very unique experience.

“Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.”

Our last hotel check-in for our US trip last 2007 was at Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia. This hotel is located at 5000 Seminary Road, with telephone number 1-703-845-1010, the West End of Historic Alexandria, Virginia. It’s just within sight of Washington, DC monuments and attractions that’s why our hosts decided to check us in at that hotel for our last tour, which is in Washington DC. Exactly 5 miles southwest of DC.

The room I got has a Double bed with 2 telephones, data port, coffee maker, iron and board, hairdryer, and On Command video. It also has wireless high-speed internet access available and a mini bar. In this hotel, pets are allowed. Something I noticed at the lobby. Reservation includes free breakfast, which we had at Finn and Porter, their in house jazzy and cool restaurant. The atmosphere is hip and inviting, perfect to jump start your day.

Alexandria is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Like the rest of northern Virginia, as well as central Maryland, modern Alexandria has been shaped by its proximity to the nation’s capital, the Washington DC. It is largely populated by professionals working in the federal civil service, the U.S. military, or for one of the many private companies which contract to provide services to the federal government. It’s really close to Pentagon, one train ride and you’re there already.

After our day tour in Washington DC, we had our dinner at King Street Blues located in St. Asaph Street, South, Old Town. It’s a three story brownstone commercial building that has the interior created by over a half dozen artists according to the service crew. The three quarter life size paper mache characters you’d see once you enter fills the dining rooms and their bar has a backdrop of colorful, nostalgic and whimsical murals. They serve delicious american comfort foods.

It was a quick tour in Alexandria, Virginia. We were told that we were just close to George Washington Masonic National Memorial or also known as the famous Masonic Temple, but since we don’t have much time, we weren’t able to visit the place. Alexandria is located just south of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington County where we had our return flight back to Manila.
