Early next day on our stay at Club Serena Resort in Moalboal, Cebu (see this entry), we left the resort going to Kawasan Falls for a quick trip to the famous waterfalls down south of Cebu. From the resort, it’s a 30 minute land travel going to Badian Town where the falls is located. Then, you’ll have to walk for another 30 minutes to get to the falls. Since we left around 6:00 am, and we haven’t gotten our breakfast, we stopped by at Julie’s Bakeshop to buy some bread to fill our hungry stomach.

Club Serena resort offers transportation and package for your visit to the falls. But we only availed of their transportation service (van) for P1,000.00 (back and forth) since we just plan to visit and experience the falls. They also have SUV for P1,5000.00 if you’re not comfortable with the van. They can also prepare lunch if you opt to stay there the whole day. Then, when we reached Matutinao, Badian, we started our relaxing trek to the falls.

The foot trail to the falls slopes gently upward for about one kilometer and is well shaded by overhanging trees. You’ll hear the roar of the falls increasing as you walk on. The Kawasan River itself is an attraction with its clear, green waters and wild growths along its banks. I have to admit, it’s not everyday you’ll have a beautiful view like this. You’ll have to cross 3 small bridges before reaching the falls. I suggest to try to stop at this moment and look upstream. Your camera can’t wait to take some shots of the background and give you a forever lasting picture of what paradise is. Trust me!

Kawasan has three waterfalls. The first one is the largest and is usually the most crowded. This is your first stop. You can bring your own food there. But If you want to just relax, you don’t have to since there’s a restaurant there where you can just buy. There’s even some rooms that you can rent if you want to stay overnight by the falls. There’s a P10.00/person entrance fee and Cottage and tables are also available for rent for P600.00/table. The driver from the resort can watch your stuff. Towels will be provided by Club Serena too, and bottled water.

You should and never miss to rent a bamboo raft to take you around the lake, or for a refreshing “waterfall massage” under the falling water. The raft ride is P200.00 plus tip to the guide. The water is freaking cold but it will just bite your skin in the beginning, and once you get to adapt to the temperature, you will start to enjoy the waterfall experience. And that waterfall massage, especially the last drop, it will make you scream like a little girl. Fantastic experience!

After experiencing the first falls, we checked out the second one. Since it is a hierarchy of waterfalls, of which the first is the biggest, however the scenery gets wilder and more impressive the further up you go. It’s another upward trek, 10-15 minutes away from the first falls. The place has stores too and tables for people who wants to have picnic, I guess if the first falls is already crowded.

The surroundings are just relaxing and peaceful at Kawasan Falls. No wonder this became a famous tourist destination, popular with locals as well as visitors. And we did not miss this chance to see and visit it on our recent Cebu trip. It’s a good place to enjoy with your friends or family, have a picnic to lush scenery, tropical forest, and have a cool swim. A very unique experience.
